Disordered Eating

There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in. – Leonard Cohen

Disordered Eating Therapy in Asheville, North Carolina

Disordered eating comes in many forms and weight doesn’t have to be a critical issue for eating and food issues to be interfering with one’s life. Some of my clients struggle with eating disorders, while others are looking to understand their emotional eating or improve their relationship with food. It’s no secret that food control, dieting, and weight loss are reinforced in almost all aspects of our society because of how we idiolize body thinness and put extreme emphasis on appearance in today’s society.

Some common problems I often help people with include:

  • Emotional Eating
  • Chronic Dieting
  • Cumpulsive Over-Exercising
  • Anorexia
  • Bulimia
  • Binge Eating

Utilizing a blend of proven interventions including CBT and DBT, I help clients begin to understand and recognize the emotional function that their eating behaviors may be serving.

Together we identify alternative ways to cope with those emotions and begin a new relationship with food. We may also work towards understanding the role that weight plays in defining one’s sense of self using a ‘health at every size’ approach.

Ultimately, finding a balance between a healthy relationship with food, body, and sense of self is the overall goal.
