Anxiety Disorders

What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or supressing or any other resistance is understanding fear; that means watch it, learn about it, and come directly into contact with it.  We are to learn about fear, not to escape from it. – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Anxiety Therapy in Asheville, North Carolina

Living with anxiety is like being followed by a voice. It knows all of your insecurities and uses them against you. It gets to the point when it’s the loudest one in the room. The only one you can hear.

Anxiety has a way of making you live smaller. You take less risks, your worries limit your experiences, and it becomes easier to avoid situations that are highly stressful. As a result, life can feel restricted, overwhelming and difficult.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is highly effective for the treatment of anxiety because it often involves a balance between working with the cognitive parts of an anxious mind as well as the avoidance and the obsessive behaviors that are usually present with anxiety. Since anxiety is always reinforced by our anxious behaviors, CBT seeks to disarm anxiety from both ends.

Through extensive training and supervision in CBT I really enjoy helping my clients find more freedom from anxiety to be able to experience joy.

I have received specialized training and supervision to treat various anxiety concerns including:

  • Generalized Anxiety
  • Social Anxiety and Social Fears
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Panic Attacks
  • Body Anxiety and Dysmorphia
